Safety Rules and Procedures

  1. Slower runners need to stay to the outside lanes.

  2. When you hear the word “track” move immediately to the outside lane.

  3. Before crossing the track or field event area, look for and yield to athletes who are performing.

  4. Do not use the infield (grass area inside the track) without communication with and approval of the throwing coaches.

  5. Make sure the throwing area is clear of people before you throw an implement (shot, discus, and javelin).

  6. Never throw an implement in the direction of another person.

  7. Do not use any track equipment or implements without first being taught by a coach how to use it properly and safely.

  8. Report any accidents immediately to your event coach.

  9. We are concerned about your health, safety, and your ability to perform at your peak level.  If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, please proceed as follows:

bulletSpeak to your event coach about what is bothering you immediately.
bulletFollow your coach’s instructions regarding this injury.  They may instruct you to do one or more of the following:
bulletICE (acronym for ice, compressions, and elevation).  DO NOT heat an injury.
    bulletAssign rehabilitation exercises.
    bulletReduce or modify workouts.
bulletSend you to the athletic trainer to evaluate your injury.
bulletIf your event coach determines that you need to see the athletic trainer, do so as soon as possible.  Follow his or her instructions regarding treatment of this injury.  Your level of participation will be determined after the athletic trainer has evaluated the injury and consulted with the head coach.
bulletGo to a physician only after consultation with our athletic trainer.  If you go to a doctor, you cannot practice or compete in a meet until our athletic trainer has a note from a physician clearing you to resume participation.
  10. Attendance at practices is mandatory for competition.  To better prepare our athletes and reduce the risk of injury, all athletes must receive instruction on equipment and/or implements before competition.
